Jannat - movie review

Jannat movie reviewJannat is the film that shows a man taking up shortcuts of evil means to get his "Jannat" (heaven) on the earth. The theme of the movie is clear-- there is only entry into the crimes, but no exit. The film is made in the line of gambling and match-fixing while the prime theme of the film is love.

Emran Hashmi and Mukesh Bhatt combination always demonstrated the darker episode of life in their movies. All the previous movies (Murder, Gangster and others) had a negative touch. In Jannat except the name itself the movie holds the like subjects.

Produced by Vishesh Films, ‘Jannat' was the debut of Kunal Deshmukh as director and also Vishesh Bhatt as a screenplay writer in the movie. The heroine Zoya (Sonal Chauhan) also marks her debut through the movie. Arjun (Emraan Hashmi) and Zoya (Sonal Chauhan) are the two central characters of the movie where Arjun is highly ambitious in life to make huge money as well as wining the heart of his love, Zoya.

Story synopsis

The story goes on with the revealing climax and ends up ruin of Arjun.

Presentation

The performance of Emraan Hashmi is amazing. Instead of being a lusty playboy like his all other movies Emran appears as an actor in the movie.  Debutant Sonal Chauhan also did well. Sonal Chauhan showed some trouble at the beginning but later on she performed well. Javed Sheikh came up with a stunner and Sameer Kochhar did his role with perfection.

Jawed Sheikh is luminous. This is his finest work so far. Samir Kochar is outstanding. Vishal Malhotra is first-rate. Shakeel Khan does very well. Abhimanyu Singh is talented. Vipin Sharma leaves a mark in a brief role. The others were above average.

Manoj Soni's cinematography is well. The screenplay and costume department look good. Sanjay Masoom's dialogues are good. A few dialogues in fact, are refreshing to the ears. Background score [Raju Singh] deserves top marks.

Direction & script

Both debutants-- the director and the script wJannat movie reviewriter-- have shown outstanding potential with the story idea of Jannat.  The movie highlights more on the love with the cricket. Although the first half appears in a slow mode but things gets momentum just before intermission and the second half goes on with full of climax.

The debutant director's bold attempt at a new subject was seen in the presentation and the clearness was visible in the narration. Some background score coupled with some really luminous camerawork has backed him a lot in the movie. The editing and the script were also good.

Music

Pritam is the music composer of the Mukesh Bhatt movie Jannat. The lyrics of the songs have been written by Sayeed Quadri. ‘Zara Sa' -KK sings this lovely romantic song. This one successfully marks a good start for the album Jannat. ‘Zara Sa' (Club Mix) is fast and brilliant in KK voice.

Based on 80's hit Kamran Ahmed has written the lyrics for the song ‘Judai' and he also gave his voice with Richa Sharma. The difference comes with the new beats in the Judai. ‘Judai' ‘Kilogram Mix'- gets heavy in beats. Richa Sharma solely sings the song ‘Lambi Judai' faultlessly. ‘Haan Tu' with tabla beats and Pakistani sufi pop kind is good to listen. Rana Mazumdar sings the good fresh love song ‘Door Naa Ja'.  The title song ‘Jannat Jahan' is a rock song by Rupam Islam and lyrics by Neelesh Mishra. The energy in the song is stormy and the rocks go well with the theme song. Overall the music of Jannat under the composition of Pritam is great!

Final remarks

The movie is overall good and enjoyable. The betting world is shown well. The movie rightly conveyed the message that the money involved in the real world is way beyond the imagination. It works fine but sometimes gets impractical. After all it is a good movie which takes up a different subject and gives it a due treatment.

Lastly, music of Jannat is awesome!
