There are many Bollywood films, which we can be easily identified with their item numbers. Take the example of the ‘Kajrare’ number by Aishwarya Rai Bhachchan from Bunty Aur Babli, it is regarded as the identity of the film. Now, the latest addition in this list is Malaika Arora Khan’s ‘Munni Badnam’ act from the film Dabangg. The sizzling item number was presented very gracefully with everyone whistling on the ‘latka jhatka’ done by Malaika.
Dabangg has not only ruled Indian theaters this year but has been a blockbuster in our neighboring country Pakistan. Apart from the film’s hero Salman Khan, Malaika is another name that became so popular among the Pakistani households, but as ‘Munni’. Everyone remembers her in that country as the sizzling item girl of ‘Munni Badnam’.
You can see hardly any marriage or any other occasion, where people are not dancing to the tunes of ‘Munni Badnam’, which has been composed by Lalit Pandit. In fact, the FM radio stations have been receiving constant request from the listeners to play the song. If you walk casually through the lanes, you might end up hearing some music system in a music store or in anyone's home playing the song and the same can be experienced inside the private cars too.
The great comedian Umar Sharif came out with play titled ‘Munni Badnam Hui’ during this Eid and it was presented at the Arts Council Theatre in Karachi. Pakistani television icon Bushra Ansari wrote a play ‘Doli ki aaye gi baraat’ for Eid and the showstopper of this play was also the ‘dholki’ sequence on the number ‘Munni badnaam hui’.
